Background
The President of India on 23rd august 2006 gave his approval to an act to combine all the laws related to food and to establish Food Safety and Standards Authority of India that will set the standards based on science for the food articles and will regulate the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, in order to make sure that safe and wholesome food is available for human consumption, it will also deal with all matters connected with food.
This Act is known as Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and this applies to the whole of India.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an agency of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The agency is responsible for the protection and promotion of public health by continuous inspection and regulation of food safety.
Obtaining a FSSAI certificate has now become mandatory for all manufacturers, traders, restaurants and all those involved in food business, commonly known as Food Business Operators (FBOs).
Advantages of Obtaining FSSAI License
The process of application start with identification of eligibility of your premise, Depending upon the installed capacity (in case of manufactures) and/or turnover (for other kind of businesses) and/or location, your premises may be eligible for any of the following categories

Step- 2: Sign in or Sign up
Central, State and Registration: Sign up has to be done by food business operator (FBO) to create user name and password (CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP)

Step- 5 Form B and Form A
Fill up the Form B in case of Central or State license and Form A in case of Registration and submit through Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS) with all the attachment mentioned in Step-4

Step-6: The next step is for payment of the fee. In case of Central License the mode of payment is Online i.e. via Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card and in case of State License and Registration certificate the payment mode varies from state to state.

Step- 7 Make a note of the 17 digit application reference number that is displayed on the screen once you have submitted the application. You need this reference number to track the progress of your application for Registration or Licensing.
Step-8: You may need to follow-up with the government department for an update on your application. The government department may send back your application for revision – if you fail to respond with 15 days of the application, then your application will be rejected.
Step-9: The government department may take 45-60 working days to completely review your application and approve the same.
